Steel overlay doors
at Emezzi®

The great advantage of the overlay door is that you don't have to make major alterations to your home. The door fits into the existing frame.

You would like a steel door, but a renovation is quite an intervention. The old frame needs to be removed, and the opening needs to be neatly finished. This is not the case with the overlay door. We will come to measure the existing frame for you so that we can custom-make the overlay door and then come to install it for you. Simple, right?

Steel overlay door

The choice of steel doors is vast, but which steel door is right for you? For example, there are steel pivot doors, hinge doors, sliding doors, and steel walls or windows. The steel door you choose depends entirely on the type of house, the interior, and your (existing) frame. On this page, you will read more about the steel overlay door; a new door in the assortment of Emezzi.

What is an overlay door?

The overlay door can be recognized by how the door connects to the frame. Whereas a flush door fits entirely within the frame, the overlay door partially sits on top of the frame. If you are unsure about the type of door you have in your home, please feel free to contact us.

The overlay door is hung with special paumelle hinges. When we come to install the overlay door, we also provide matching paumelles. Within the steel overlay doors, we also have variations: we have an overlay door with a handle (for wooden frames and metal frames) and an overlay door with a magnetic lock (only for metal frames).

Difference between overlay door and flush door

The difference with a flush door is that this door fits entirely within the frame. The edges of a flush door, therefore, do not stick out. For steel exterior doors, a flush door is always chosen because it is more resistant to burglars. For interior doors, people choose both flush and overlay doors, depending on the situation.

Difference in glass thickness

Moreover, a flush door has 10 mm thick laminated safety glass, and an overlay door has 6 mm thick laminated safety glass. The flush door is often used in conference rooms to ensure it blocks a lot of sound.

Advantages of overlay doors

Overlay doors cover the entire frame, which means an overlay door allows little draft. Do you have an older home that is poorly insulated? Then, by using an overlay door, you ensure that there is as little draft as possible. This helps keep the energy bill low because less heating is required.

Installation of overlay doors

Moreover, an overlay door is easier to install than a flush door. This means that the installation costs of an overlay door are significantly lower. The cost of the door itself is also slightly lower since different thicknesses of glass are used, and a flush door comes with a frame.
